Argumentative Speech Yakob Kassa Topic: Legalization of marijuana General Purpose: To argue Specific Purpose: To argue that all states in the Unites States of America should legalize marijuana. Thesis Statement: Marijuana should be legalized in all states because, (1) it benefits the health of citizens; (2) it benefits states financially; and (3) it will decrease the health risk of citizens. Introduction I. Marijuana prohibition applies to everyone that lives in the United States regardless of age, gender and race including the sick as well the dying. II. According to the U.S. drug enforcement administration, under Title 21 of the United States Code (USC) Controlled Substances Act, Section 812, marijuana is â€Å"classified as a Schedule One substance which has no medicinal value.† A. Even though this law still applies to all federal agencies, a number of states have legalized marijuana for recreational and medicinal use. B. States of the U.S. are spilt in two different paths. 1. Some states feel that marijuana has no medical value and that it will increase the health risk of citizens. 2. Other states feel that marijuana plant contains several chemicals that may prove useful for treating a range of illnesses or symptoms. ( NIDA ) C.
